Woman To Woman: Book Review

You know, it is hard to recall any other books before the Twilight Series came into my life!! LOL! I guess the characters just left a lasting impressions on me! However, I do have other favorites that are stored somewhere in my memory! (I just have to get Edward and Jacob out of the way . . . )

One of the most poetic and beautifully written books that I have read in a long time is "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. This is an emotional tale about a young girl who is trying to find her place or rather, purpose in the world without the guidance of a mother. She embarks on a journey of self discovery and self validation that I think could comfort any broken heart.

I particularly enjoyed Sue Monk Kidd's style of writing. She uses such strong symbolism and imagery in her sentences that I found myself wanted to read the book again just to highlight some of its passages. One example (of many) that paints a stunning visual image for me is at a point in the book where the characters are walking through the woods saying the Lord's prayers together. Kidd writes,

"We walked along the river with the words streaming behind us like ribbons in the night."

I highly recommend this book to anyone! Just like a bee's sweet honey, this book can heal you in a variety of ways! (Okay, that was my attempt at a one line review!! :)

Thanks for stopping by! I enjoy Sue Monk Kidd's writing, but had a harder time with this book for some reason. My sister loved it.

I'll have to definitely check out the other series you alluded to.

I note that you're recovering from surgery. You'll have to send someone to the library for all these new good ideas for books that we're seeing today!! Best wishes.

Thanks for sharing in our woman to woman book review this week.

I noticed that Dawn refered to you having surgery. I wish for you a swift recovery...I keep you on my prayer list.

Hi Zoe,

I was in a book club when they read it (of course I didn't, I'm just there for the food.) I am learning to read now...I am half-way through Twilight and loving it so far. I hope to finish it soon. I will have to try this one next. My mom has a copy from the book club so I will borrow. Luvs!
Ash

p.s. Get well soon!

Zoe,

Hey, once upon a time...I clicked on your friend "dancing queen's" name on accident and noticed that she has "Katherine" listed in her favorite books section on her profile. THAT IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME. I would recommend it to anyone. So great. It's by Anya Seton. You should read that when you need to add another favorite to your list. That is all. :)

Oh, I loved that book too! Along with the story in general, I really found it quite facinating learning all those facts about bees! I've gained a greater appreciation for them in the process. Everytime i eat honey, I think of that book. wouldn't you love to get your hands on some of that lavender honey? How neat.
